Silent Thyroiditis The silent thyroiditis variety of destructive hyperthyroidism is seen more frequently in North America than in Europe. It is usually- mild and self-limiting and requires only symptomatic therapy. It may affect women who have previously had postpartum thyroiditis. Like hyperthyroidism due to postpartum thyroiditis, silent thyroiditis is differentiated from Graves' disease by a low thyroidal radioiodine uptake.
